Emergency lights are designed to operate for a minimum 90-minutes after AC power to a building is lost. The 90-minute specification is specified in the NFPA Life Safety Code. The Life Safety Code was and still is used by UL (Underwriter Laboratories) to create the UL 924 Standard for Emergency Lighting and Exit Sign Fixtures. The UL 924 Listing on all of hour emergency lights insures a minimum 90-minute run time.
But, sometimes 90-minutes is not enough. There are many types of commercial and industrial applications where an extended run time is desired. This can be the case for large processing and manufacturing facilities, areas where rolling blackouts can occur, and areas where when power is lost, it typically takes more than 90-minutes for it to be restored. For these instances, we design, build, and recommend our 4-Hour Emergency Light. This emergency light features a 240-minute run time, double the minimum requirement set by the NFPA’s Life Safety Code.

Emergency lights with a 4-hour run time are designed for commercial applications where more than 90-minutes of emergency illumination will be required. This is common in a variety of applications.
The 4-hour emergency light is manufactured from heavy-duty 20-gauge steel that is finished with a baked enamel white powder coat. The lamp heads are mounted on top of the unit and can easily be adjusted.
We also offer an 4-hour oudoor emergency light that is designed with a polycarbonate, waterproof housing suitable for wet locations. This is a great choice for more industrial applications where moisture, dust, and other materials are present in the air.
Utilizes 120/277v AC electricity to operate and charge the battery. Comes standard with solid state charging circuitry, low voltage disconnect, AC lockout, and brownout protection. Available in custom voltages upon request.
9-watt lamp heads come standard on the steel 4-hour emergency light and the 4-hour oudoor emergency light. 9-watt lamp heads are almost double the illumination power of 5.4-watt lamps that typically come on most emergency lighting fixtures.
Higher and more powerful lamp heads are also available; please call us to discuss other options and a price quote. Higher wattage lamp heads are popular for industrial emergency light applications. Photometric data is available for all lamp head choices.
This emergency light with 4-hour run time comes with (2) lamp heads but can also be ordered with one; or no lamps at all. When ordered with no lamps the unit is essentially a power supply for remotely located lamp fixtures. Other lamp wattage available: 12, 18, 25, 30, 35, 55, and even 70-watts.
Emergency lights with a 4 hour run time lights come standard with a 6-volt, 100-watt sealed lead acid emergency light battery. Higher capacity emergency light batteries are available.
The recharge time for the battery of our 4-hour emergency light is 24 hours and the max working temperature for the battery is 122º F. The sealed lead acid battery has an average lifespan of 3 to 5 years. Make sure to test your emergency light batteries on a monthly and yearly basis to comply with OSHA testing requirements.

Self-testing - The unit can come with self-diagnostic testing that eliminates monthly and yearly testing of the battery backup system and alerts the user to any problems regarding operational functionality of the unit.
Time-Delay - This option is ideal for installations that are utilizing fluorescent and HID lamps for general lighting purposes. The time delay feature keeps the emergency lights ililluminated for a preset period (usually 15 minutes) after power is restored since fluorescent and HID lighting can take 10-15 minutes to reach full brightness, even after a short power failure.
Nickel Cadmium Battery - The unit can come with a nickel cadmium battery. A step above the standard sealed lead acid batter, Ni-Cad batteries have a 5-7 year lifespan, are easier to replace, and decrease shipping weight. Nickel cadmium emergency light batteries are only available on the steel and wet location battery backup emergency light models.
The steel housing that comes standard with this extended run time emergency light is sturdy and can handle moderate abuse. For emergency lighting applications which feature dust, water, or moisture of any kind, make sure to purchase the 4-hour oudoor emergency light.
Both steel 4-hour emergency lights 4-hour oudoor emergency lights are very durable. The wet location model is waterproof and manufactured from gray fiberglass polycarbonate that is weatherproof and can be used in industrial applications.
By extending the run time of an emergency light from 90-minutes to 240-minutes you increase the time allowed for escaping a building during an emergency. This also insures that if the power to the facility is not restored within 90-minutes, occupants will be able to safely return to the building even after 90-minutes has passed and AC power has still not been restored.
