Cheap Emergency Lights

The Truth About Cheap Emergency Lights

Amidst all the cost and work of starting a new business or expanding existing business operations, it is easy to let details like emergency lights go by the wayside. However, the fines that a business could receive for operating without the proper safety precautions in place make this option very unattractive.

Emergency lights are an important part of safety within the workplace, especially in emergency situations. The good news is that emergency lights do not have to break your bank, we offer reliable, compliant, and long-lasting emergency lights at affordable prices. Our cheap emergency lights are cheap on price, not on quality.

Not only that, but in places where one needs a final building inspection, to receive their certificate of occupancy, you can forget about the idea of opening your doors for business without emergency lights.

Fortunately, not all emergency lights are expensive; there are inexpensive emergency lights available on the market. Some of these units cost less than $20.00 per unit. They are thermoplastic emergency lights, with two built in lamp heads.

Limitations of Cheap Emergency Lights:

Like almost everything in life, buying cheap emergency lights has its tradeoffs. Some of them are:

  • Not as rugged as steel enclosure emergency lights
  • Cannot install larger wattage bulbs for lighting larger areas
  • Cannot attach remote lamp heads
  • Cannot customize them with options that are available for steel emergency lights
  • Cannot be used in wet or damp applications
  • Cannot be used outdoors
  • Cannot be used in hazardous areas

As you can see from this list, many of the limitations are only for specific areas, and may not apply to your situation. Depending on your application, these cheaper emergency lights may be everything you need, especially in an office setting, where you don’t need the ruggedness or hazardous material capability of more expensive emergency lights.

Please note that the expected life of these cheaper lights may not be as high as more expensive units. You can expect to receive 8 to 10 years of service from these units before replacement. Additionally, the battery life of these less lights is five years. To insure battery life, the battery should be fully discharged at the annual inspection and then recharged.

Cheap Emergency Lights – What You’re Getting:

Even though the pricing on these inexpensive units is low and they are missing the capability of some options, they are still emergency lights. That means that they still have to comply with all applicable regulations pertaining to emergency lights. They are still tied into your building’s electrical grid, and will still come on and stay on for a minimum of 90 minutes in a power loss situation.

Essentially, the interior workings of cheap emergency lights are the same as more expensive units. They have a battery installed to power the unit in case of power loss. There is a transformer and circuit card to provide the necessary power to charge the battery, and turn on the light in case of emergency. They also have a test button, which interrupts power, simulating a power loss situation. In almost all cases, they are powered by a nickel-cadmium battery.

These are the basic elements of an emergency light, and even though these units are cheaper than others, you will still find that they have these basic components.
