Aluminum Exit Signs

Aluminum Exit Signs

While thermoplastic exit signs are by far both the least expensive and the most popular, they are not always the most practical. Just as thermoplastic emergency lights are easily damaged in industrial and warehouse applications, so too, thermoplastic exit signs can become easily damaged. For this reason, it is recommended to use aluminum exit signs in these applications.

Cast Aluminum Exit Signs are durable and and appealing. We offer a variety of finishes.

Additionally, since these aluminum exit signs are more rugged and shockproof than their thermoplastic cousins, they are excellent choices for applications where signs may be subject to vandalism. While not all aluminum exit signs are considered vandal proof, any of them would be more resistant to damage caused by vandals than thermoplastic signs. Actual vandal proof aluminum exit signs are available, which have a heavy duty case to resist striking and other damage by vandals.

Variety in Color Availability

All aluminum exit sign models are available with white, black, or brushed aluminum cases. They are also available with either green or red lettering. All lettering is six inches high, with a 3/4 inch stroke, as required by regulations; except New York City exit signs, which have eight inch high letters with a 1 inch stroke.

Why LED Exit Signs?

Almost all electrically powered exit signs are now made with LEDs to provide illumination, instead of incandescent or halogen bulbs. With the more recent breakthroughs in LED technology, they now provide enough illumination for this and many other applications where LEDs couldn’t previously be used. LEDs provide a considerable cost savings over the light bulbs previously used in exit signs. LED exit signs are the premier choice for electrical exit sign applications. Cast aluminum LED exit sign fixtures are seen throughout all types of commercial properties.

These calculations assume that the unit is going to be left on for 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, as in most installations. The 8 years is the life expectancy of the LEDs. Maintenance costs for replacing 112 light bulbs in the incandescent unit has not been included in the calculation. It is clear from these calculations that LEDs are a much more cost effective solution for exit signs than incandescent bulbs.

Aluminum Exit Sign Installations

As much as possible, cast aluminum exit signs are “universal” signs, meaning that they can be configured to be used in a variety of applications. Most aluminum exit signs come prepared for mounting in a number of alternate configurations. The same sign can be mounted to the wall, or hung from the ceiling, depending upon the bracket used. Additionally, these signs ship with 2 faceplates and one back plate. If you need to use the sign in a two-sided application, you need only remove the back plate and install the second faceplate. Arrows for directing traffic to the nearest egress point are typically supplied for with all exit signs. Call today for help picking out the right cast aluminum exit sign for your application.
