The HZEL Series Class 1 Division 1 Emergency light is rated for use in the most hazardous locations. A Class 1 Div 1 location features flammable gases, vapors, and dust during normal operations. The HZEL is explosion proof, there is no possible way the HZEL can ignite any type of explosion as it is completely self-contained. The HZEL Class 1 Division 1 Emergency Light provides 90 minutes of emergency illumination after AC power to the facility or building is lost.

This hazardous location emergency light features powerful, yet compact 12v 20w Halogen MR16 lamps that ililluminate a large area and are easy to position. This Class 1 Div 1 emergency light is features a cast aluminum enclosure that is copper-free and designed to withstand the pressure of explosions. The aluminum housing is corrosion resistant with an epoxy powder coat finish.

The HZEL Class 1 Division 1 Emergency Light operates using 120 or 277v AC electricity and comes with urge-protected, solid-state circuitry that provides a reliable charging system. This emergency light features (4) maintenance-free, lead calcium batteries that provide emergency support via a 12-volt DC connection. External Specifications

Copper-free cast aluminum housing is designed for hazardous Class 1 Div 1 and Class 1 Div 2 environments. The housing includes a high impact, heat resistant globe with a cast aluminum globe guard and stainless steel external mounting hardware. Available in a wall or ceiling mount version. Optional pendant kit is available, which lets you hang this emergency light from high, vaulted ceilings.

Class 1 Division 1 emergency lights are designed for installation into the most hazardous environments, including oil refineries, power plants, and chemical processing facility. These types of fixtures are also called explosion proof emergency lights, meaning they are designed to prevent the ignition of explosive gases, vapors, and dust.

Lamp Specifications

12-volt 20-watt Halogen MR16 lamps are enclose by the shatterproof and explosion proof clear polycarbonate guard.

Electrical Specifications

120/277v AC dual-voltage operation is standard with surge-protected, solid-state circuitry that provides for a reliable charging system. Other voltages available upon request such as 220v and 240v. Some models feature a temperature compensated charger. Charging system is complete with low voltage disconnect, AC lockout, and brownout protection. Test button is standard.

Battery Specifications

Maintenance free, sealed lead calcium battery has an estimated service life of 5 years, and an operating temperature range of 65°F (19°C) to 85°F (30°C).

Line sensitive electronics cause an instantaneous transfer to battery power if utility power is lost, or a brownout condition is detected. When line voltage is present and stabilized, the transfer circuitry switches back to normal operation and begins recharging the battery.

Three-year warranty on parts, four-year prorated warranty on lead calcium battery, five-year prorated warranty on nickel cadmium battery.

Maintenance Profile

The maintenance required for this unit is monthly and yearly testing of the battery backup system per OSHA regulations. The emergency lamps are replaceable if broken or burnt out.

Lifespan

Class 1 Div 1 emergency lights have an 8-10 year expected lifespan on all components except the replaceable battery.

Technology

The AC lockout feature prevents battery drain prior to the initial energizing of utility power, and allows the installer to complete all wiring and electrical connections without energizing the emergency circuit.

The low voltage disconnect (LVD) feature will disconnect the battery prior to an unacceptable deep discharge, but not before the required 90 minute emergency operation.

Installation

This emergency light is suitable for surface (wall and ceiling) installation. Optional pendant kit is available for high ceiling installation. This model is suitable for installations on normally inflammable surfaces. Use two of three provided wires to connect the unit to AC power. Use the black(120v) and white(Common) wires for 120v AC connections and the red(277v) and white(Common) wires for 277v AC connections.
