San Diego Emergency Lights

San Diego Emergency Lights

Basically, San Diego emergency lights are battery powered lighting units that are set up to come on automatically if the building experiences a power outage. Most building codes now require these lighting units to be installed in all new buildings and many laws are now being set up to include them in older buildings as well.

Emergency lighting provides light during a power outage

Most backup lighting like this needs a large enough battery source to run the lights long enough and bright enough for people to see in hallways and stairwell to exit safely. They will usually need to last long enough for the repair or emergency crew to do their work on the system. The lights themselves will usually be high intensity flood, lumen, LED or halogen bulbs that can cast a strong and wide stream of light across an area.

This type of emergency lighting source has become mandatory for high occupancy commercial and residential buildings. Very often once the main power source has been restored, these lights will need to be shut off manually. This is another precaution that ensures the building management knows there was a power outage.

Testing of the lights is required

The lights can be positioned so they are facing exit doors and stairways and they will also have a button that you can push so you can test the lights manually. When not in use, this type of lighting is hooked into the main electrical source to constantly power up the batteries. It uses very little power to continually keep the batteries charged and they can last this way for about 10 years. It's only when the main source is cut off, that the battery source kicks in.

Although, during the summer, the days are long and bright no matter where you are in San Diego. You will probably want to visit one of San Diego's famous water parks especially, if you have kids and theses parks are required to have their emergency lighting in place, as with any other high occupancy structure.

Wet Location Emergency Lights

There is even what is known as wet location emergency lights that are specifically made for areas like this. These emergency lighting fixtures are fully weather proofed and water proofed and are approved for all outdoor uses, including inclement weather such as sleet and snow. There is also an extreme cold weather option that includes a small heater the keeps the light functioning through the winter. It also has an easily accessible testing button so you can check regularly if the emergency light is still in operation.

Exit signs

Mandatory installations included the use of EXIT signs above doorways. These signs need to be lit 24/7 and placed not only above exit ways but, at stairways leading outside, sometimes with an arrow embedded in the sign to show the way if it is unclear. These types of San Diego emergency lights have proven to save lives in the event of a fire and no building should be without them.
