Wet Location Emergency Lighting

Wet Location Emergency Lights

Wet location emergency lights are designed for use outdoors and in other areas where moisture is present. It's important to choose the right type of wet location emergency light for your specific application. This article will explain the different models of wet location emergency lights that we offer and the applications that they are designed for. Hopefully, after reading this, you will be able to make an informed and confident decision on which type of wet location emergency light is right for you.

NEMA Rated

All of our wet location emergency lights are NEMA 4X rated. NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) approved emergency lights are rated by a number, and sometimes a letter, to indicate the environment that they are suitable for. NEMA 4X rated emergency lights are suitable for areas that experience dripping or falling water (rain), sleet, snow, and airborne dust or dirt.

Wet Location Emergency Light Choices

The WPEL wet location emergency light was designed to be durable and affordable, beginning at less than $60 per unit. We created this light by taking one of our most popular indoor emergency lights and building a waterproof enclosure to house the light. The housing features fully gasketed seams that are hermatically sealed to prevent any moisture from entering the inside of the emergency light. Illumination is provided by two 5-watt MR16 Halogen lamps that are easily positioned to illuminate the desired coverage area. A 6v 4.5amp emergency light battery provides 90 minutes of emergency illumination. A push-button allows easy testing of the battery backup to insure the unit's functionality during emergency situations.

Heavy-Duty Wet Location Emergency Lights

The WPEL-HD-6 heavy-duty wet location emergency light is a step up from the WPEL and features 7.2-watt lamps that are top-mounted to the unit and which also can be changed out to increase the wattage and light output. 9, 12, 18, 20, 25, 30, 35, and even 55-watt lamps can be outfitted on this wet location emergency light. Concurrently, the battery voltage and amperage increases with the increase in the lamps to insure that a 90-minute emergency run time is maintained.

Cold Weather Emergency Light Specifications

The heavy-duty wet location emergency light can be outfitted with an internal battery heater to insure that when freezing temperatures occur, the emergency light still functions properly. Emergency light batteries are like car batteries, they do not function well in cold environments. The wet location emergency light's battery heater is paired with a thermostat which kicks in around 50 degrees Fahrenheit and insures the light will operate properly when temperatures drop as low as -15 degrees Fahrenheit.

Extreme Environments

For the most extreme environments, choose the Extreme Emergency Light. This model was used recently on a project in Alaska for a natural gas company who needed to install emergency lights outside of a blast wall. Temperatures go as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit and the Extreme Emergency Light is the only fixture int he market that can be used in such environments. Additionally, they ordered the wet location emergency light with self-diagnostic testing so that monthly and yearly testing and maintenance procedures were eliminated. Finally, they upgrade to the Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery that features a 10-year lifespan, the longest available today.
