Frequently Asked Questions
How many lamps can the BAL1400TD operate?
One lamp at up to 1400 initial lumens for at least 90 minutes. In two-lamp mode, the total output is shared between both lamps.
Which lamp types are supported?
Compatible with T5 / T5HO, T8, T12, 4-pin CFL (e.g., 2G11, G24q/GR10q), circular T5/T9, and U-bend fluorescent lamps. Verify wattage in the compatibility chart above.
Does it work with LED replacement tubes?
No—this is a fluorescent emergency ballast. For LED-only fixtures or Type B/C LED tubes, use a dedicated LED emergency driver rated for your lamp/fixture.
Is it suitable for sealed or gasketed fixtures?
Yes. It is listed for use in sealed/gasketed and enclosed fluorescent fixtures when installed per instructions and within the specified ambient temperature.
Can I remote-mount the ballast?
Yes—up to 50 ft from the lamp, provided the run does not exceed one-half of the AC ballast’s rated lamp-to-ballast distance.
How do I wire it with a switched fixture?
Provide an unswitched (always-on) feed to the emergency ballast so it can charge and transfer during an outage; the switched feed may still control normal lighting.
What does the time-delay feature do?
It prevents nuisance dropout with EOL (end-of-lamp-life) or AC-ballast shutdown features, ensuring the emergency lamp stays lit when normal power is interrupted.
What testing and maintenance are required?
Use the included LED indicator/push-to-test for functional checks. Follow NFPA 101 best practices: brief monthly tests and an annual 90-minute test. Replace the battery if it no longer supports full duration.
What’s the operating environment?
Damp location rated; 0 °C to 50 °C ambient. For wet locations, install inside a suitable listed enclosure/fixture.
What’s covered by the warranty?
5-year limited warranty on electronics and battery (lamps excluded). See product documentation for full terms.
